You'll find that a lot of patient don't understand what dilating their eyes means and why it is important. When you talk about a dilated exam to your patients, you'll often hear "Do I really need to do that?" I've had it done in the past and my eyes were fine." "I think I would know if something were wrong with my eyes." "My last doctor never dilated me, why do I have to now?" Or "Can't I just take the photos of my eyes instead?"
You need to get really confident at explaining why a dilation is an important part of your eye exam. Dr. Marc Bloomenstein and Dr. Steven Ferrucci discuss in this video how to better talk to your patients about what to expect, and why it's necessary.
